Now is the Time

June 11, 2009

Mark Shurtleff QuoteWe have begun. We the people of Utah, and we the people of the United States, in order to maintain our more perfect union, are “Taking Back America!” No more taxpayer-funded bailouts. No more government-owned businesses. No more ever-expanding federal entitlement programs. No more slouching towards socialism! The winds of change, they are a-blowing.

Two weeks ago I launched my campaign for United States Senate, to represent us, the great people from Utah, in service to our blessed but troubled nation. I would like to thank you for your tremendous support these past two weeks. I urge you to
join our team to help solve the problems in Washington.

M
y family and I are dedicated to serving the people of Utah and feel that I can do the most good for Utah not as your Attorney General, but as your voice in Washington. A voice dedicated to the motto borrowed from Cicero and John Adams: “The people’s good is the highest law.” The people’s good is my highest priority, as it should be the government’s. It has been my commitment and sworn oath as your Attorney General, and it will continue to be so as your United States Senator, where I will fight for our belief in fiscal conservatism, conservatism that has been trapped beneath the TARP.

M
any disturbing trends over the last few decades have left us angry and asking how did we get where we are today? How is it that Washington, and even our own republican representatives, have lost touch with conservative principles again and again to create the monster we now call the federal government?

L
ast year while running for president, Mitt Romney said,

"Washington fundamentally is broken, and the people in this country want to see change, and that’s not going to happen by somebody who’s been there,  for whom Washington is a way of life.”

The change we want is to take back America. We must take back America by putting a stop to spending money we don’t have. We need a constitutional balanced budget amendment, a budget balanced with deep spending cuts and across-the-board, permanent, pro-growth tax cuts!.  We need to represent the fiscal responsibility that Utah has striven for with our state budget. I want to stop the reckless spending of money. Every federal program needs to be transparent and accountable for their results and spending to the citizens of the United States. Washington has turned upside down our inspired system of federalism that sought to limit corruption and place very limited power in the hands of the feds.  I will be that voice that seeks to put Washington back to the way it was meant to be, a system designed to protect individual liberties and freedoms. I will put this power back where it belongs, in the hands of the people, in the hands of the states.

Where does it all end? My answer is that it must end here. And it starts today. Join me
in taking back America!

Thank you for your tremendous support these past two weeks. We couldn’t be more excited and energized, and from all of the calls, letters, emails, texts, Facebook messages and yes, even tweets we have received, we are not alone!

My husband and I have been pleased with all your great work being Utah's Attorney General. We have been quite dissapointed in Senator Bennet. We were extremely upset that he would vote for Cass Sunstein, Obama's Regulatory Csar. He has some very radical views and has now been given power to "tweek" things enough and take our freedoms away.

I have been a fan of the attorney general for years and appreciate his straight forward, honest and sensible approach to the complex problems of government. And while I admire Senator Bennett and appreciate his service, it is time for a change -- better said, it is time for a clean sweep in Washington. No more professional policians! Let's send good men like Mark Shurtleff to Washington to restore sanity to the legislature.

I support Mark because of his record as attorney general; he has been proactive and his causes have been admirable. I support him because while waiting in line to talk to him I noticed that he gave his full attention to whomever he was talking to. He never lifted his eyes to see if someone more important was waiting or even to see how long the line was. That really impressed me. If he can care that much about each individual then he will care about this nation as a whole. He has made time to attend tea parties and doesn't hurry off when his time on stage is over. If he truly stands for what he professes to believe in then we will have a good and honest man to represent us. Juliann

I feel I can call Mark Shurtleff "brother." He is as related to me and my family as folks can be in the way he feels about the people of America, about the people of Utah and about protecting and preserving those freedoms, rights and priveleges that God has mercifully granted to us. So, Brother, to you I say keep to this righteous road you're on and we of like mind and heart will back you. More specifically I ask you to please keep an open dialogue with these people and take opportunity to be an Informer and perhaps at times an Educator. Let us know, from your unique vantage point in which we place you, when you see key opportunities for us to act and influence this state and nation for good. You have accomplished many admirable things and you walk honorably, seeking to give further service. For this I thank you. -Justin

I am curious to know the differences between you and the current senator.
