Southern Utah University and Dixie State College each will host part of the Utah Identity Theft Tour intended to help Utah residents fight against ID theft. Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will take part in activities on both campuses to spread the word about the growing risk of ID theft in Utah.
The Identity Theft Tour is meant to provide information about the devastating consequences of ID theft and share the latest technology to stop it.
"This tour will be an eye opener for most people," Shurtleff said in statement. "As technology changes we need to do everything we can to educate the public about the dangers of identity theft and how they can stay ahead of the curve and protect themselves."
The schedule is:
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. : Free shredding in the Sharwin Smith Student Center parking lot at Southern Utah University.
1 to 2 p.m.: ID theft presentation in the Student Center living room at SUU.
4 to 7 p.m.: Free shredding in the Gardner Center parking lot at Dixie State College.
6 to 7 p.m.: ID theft presentation at conference room D in the Gardner Center.
Tuesday's tour will include free document shredding services and a seminar to educate the public on what they can do to protect themselves from ID theft. Along with Shurtleff, ID theft expert Scott Morrill will be available to offer safety tips to the public.
One of the highlights of the tour will be an introduction to the improved Web site IRIS - the Identity theft Reporting Information System. This Web site allows victims to file identity theft reports online and communicate easily with law enforcement. This award-winning Web site is available at www.idtheft.utah.gov.
